Leading PARD night vision and thermal solutions from Garrison Technology • The question that we as Garrison Technology often get asked about PARD products is what is the difference between night vision and thermal? There is a lot to say and one must be careful not to go down a rabbit hole of technical specifications, as this may be confusing to some. So, l will try and keep it simple and to the point. Night vision with a built-in infrared (IR) torch and thermal scopes both aid to see objects in low-light conditions. However, they operate on different principles and have distinct advantages and limitations.

Buying Your First Firearm

Rimfire Voodoo • Can you shoot out your rimfire barrel? Well, yes and no. The soft lead of the projectile going down the rifle barrel does not wear the rifling out like a centrefire rifle would. The small case of a .22LR does have propellant that wears out the throat of the barrel, which also causes carbon build-up. The one thing to keep clean in a rimfire rifle is the chamber or throat.

SAPSA Rifle National Championship • Once again it was exciting to be part of an IPSC national match from 8 to 11 February, hosted by Limpopo Province Practical Shooting Association (LPPSA) at the Polokwane Shooting Range. Our range is probably the best practical-shooting range in South Africa, specifically with regard to the number of long-distance ranges offered. The course of fire had 15 stages, of which eight were shot on the first day and seven on the second.

SAPSA Level III: 1st Round, IPSC Handgun National Championship 2024 • The first round of the SAPSA IPSC Handgun Nationals was proudly hosted at the Kraaifontein Sport Shooting Club in Cape Town. With the majority of the competitors flocking the suburb and surrounding areas, they were not disappointed by the quality and expertise of this exceptionally well run match.

The 2024 Swarovski Gong Challenge at Platrand Lodge • On 2 March, 132 shooters gathered at Platrand Lodge just outside Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal for the 12th Swarovski Gong Challenge. Other than six ranges with five gongs each, also had to battle the tiring heat, with an anticipated maximum temperature of 38°C. The shooters were undeterred and their spirits remained high throughout the day.
