Long-Range Muzzle Loaders World Championship 2023, Hungary • Black powder target shooting has been around for many years, and muzzle loader world championships are held every year. They alternate between short-range (25 to 100 m) and long-range (300 to 900 m or 300 to 1 000 yards). Although the governing body for muzzle loading shooting in the world, the Muzzle Loaders Associations International Confederation (MLAIC), currently has 28 member countries, only about 12 compete regularly in the long-range events.

A Long-Distance Shooter’s Journey • My long-distance shooting career started when I was about 14 and my dad had me shooting a .300 Win Mag during whitetail deer season here in Kansas. Over the next five years or so I got pretty good at shooting deer at 250 to 300 yards offhand and sometimes on the run. That was definitely the gateway to seeing how far I could push a rifle’s capabilities.
