Most of us are acquainted with Frank Lloyd Wright as America's foremost Architect, but little is known of the horror and tragedy that almost destroys his life during his middle age. In the summer of 1914, gruesome ax murders, assaults and arson occur at Taliesin, Wright's home and studio, located outside of Spring Green, Wisconsin; seven people die horribly and two others are seriously injured. Among the dead are Wright's illicit lover for whom he had deserted his wife and children. The suspect is the family's Negro handy man and butler. Wright requires every ounce of his will to preserve himself and his craft. He realizes his very existence is threatened and reaches out for help... and new love from a mysterious woman who recently entered his life. Are the grisly murders an unfortunate result of a butler gone mad or are there other, even more insidious and malevolent forces at work? The characters, events and architecture of the time come vividly and realistically to life.
