Noir crime in the hard-boiled tradition of Cain, Chandler, Goodis, Hammett, Thompson and Woolrich, the novella features Jack Fury, a hit man, who gives priority to his personal code when it clashes with that of his Mob employers. To escape their vengeance, he flees to a criminal sanctuary in Central America. Rebels led by Carlos Bustamonte take control of the refuge. The 2008 Fiscal Crisis destroys Jack's retirement nest egg. Imprisoned and facing execution because of his inability to pay prescibed fees, he persuades the rebel leader to join him in a drug smuggling scheme with Tom Bull, a corrupt American sheriff who abused Jack in the past. When he drops the dime, Jack hopes to replenish his treasury and enjoy payback from both sheriff and rebel.
