The last thing PI Kira Vance expects when she takes on a case for a high-profile client is to watch her mentor get shot in cold blood at the home of Houston's wealthiest lawyer. Whatever he was working on got him killed, and Kira is hired to find out what it was, even though it puts her directly in the line of fire. Not even the threat of being shot at is enough to slow her down, which makes her a massive headache for Jeremy Owen, her personal bodyguard from the elite Wolfe Security team hired to protect everyone involved in the case. Jeremy seems determined to get in the way of her investigation with his "rules" and "protocols," and his hard body is a major distraction. But as it becomes clear that the unknown assassin is no amateur, Kira must come to terms with knowing that staying out of danger could be worth more than uncovering the truth.
